Chidinma Chima-Melton, MD, shares an experience with a patient who was previously fit and healthy but was getting increasingly short of breath. Despite being treated for pneumonia several times, the patient was eventually diagnosed with severe interstitial lung disease (ILD), which progressed quickly and required a lung transplant.
This experience opened Dr Melton's eyes to both the rapid progression of ILD and the problems with diagnosis and changed the trajectory of her career to focus on these issues.
