Recalling time spent at the National Cancer Institute, Dr Joyce O'Shaughnessy credits four mentors with establishing a priority of enhanced treatment options for patients with early breast cancer.
To answer the need for more treatment options for patients at high risk for recurrence, Dr O'Shaughnessy and colleagues stressed the development of strategies of escalation, involving intensifying dosing frequency and tracking research to keep current with the evolving understanding of the underlying biology of the disease.
